The 3 things you MUST know about Wrong Fuel!

Run Out of Fuel Support

Run out of fuel in Wem (out of gas - as the Americans would say)? We operate a complete Shropshire Run Out of Fuel Service. We're able to help to refill your automobile any time you are stuck on a motorway, roadside far from a petrol station, or perhaps even at your home. Our techs can come out to you with 10-20 litres of fuel (at pump price) to refill the car. They can also fix the typical issues that can go along with running out of fuel - like airlocks, vehicle not starting, as well as flat batteries resulting from over-cranking.

Water Contamination or AdBlue Contamination

Water contaminated fuel, no matter whether it is unleaded or diesel, can be a significant situation to handle in a motor vehicle - specifically in present-day common-rail engines.

Water or AdBlue inside your fuel can lead to idling difficulties, irregular running, increased smoke and, if it is not remedied effectively, potentially damaged injectors. Water in petrol is less difficult to drain in comparison with water in diesel - this is primarily due to the fact that diesel is an oil. In spite of this we are able to take care of both cases very quickly.

You should know however that as long as the vehicle was started with the water contamination it will most likely require a new fuel filter fitted seeing that the old one will undoubtedly be completely water-logged and useless.

Wrong Fuel in Car London - Petrol in Diesel Car Wem

Now I am certainly not overly interested in working on weekends, and last week was no different. I had just left the wife and kids following a wonderful Sunday roast cooked by the wife, and I was on my way to help a fellow because he filled the incorrect fuel in his navy blue Peugeot 206. He was stationed in Wem so it wasn't long before I reached him. Just as I drove up behind the vehicle and stepped out he said to me "Praise the Almighty! I incredibly had my thoughts on other considerations and did not perceive I've put the wrong fuel in my petrol vehicle. Have I caused some damage through driving it?" I said truth be told there shouldn't be any harm and also that I would personally drain the wrong fuel at once for him. It goes without saying that I got the wrong fuel drained from the vehicle and filled it with some appropriate fuel, and yet another pleased client had the ability to continue their traveling without any subsequent bother. The man did not stop thanking me, and this is actually what makes operating on weekends in Shropshire just a tiny bit easier in my opinion!

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VAT receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
